TITLE: Director of Succession Planning
LOCATION: Norfolk

Risë Flenner is the Director of Succession Planning at PBMares, LLP. She has served in this capacity since joining the Firm in 2018. In this role, Risë helps clients with both business succession and personal succession planning and implementation. Risë has focused in these areas for her entire career, which spans more than 20 years.

Risë began her public accounting career with a Big Four accounting firm in the Baltimore, Maryland and the Washington D.C. offices. During that time, she worked with the small- to medium-sized business group in Baltimore and the high net worth individual group in Washington. It was this experience that led to a career concentrated on tax-efficient strategies to meet the personal and professional objectives of clients. Risë continued practicing in these areas when she joined another Big Four firm as a Senior Tax Manager in 2004. In 2008, she joined Top 20 firm and made partner in 2012. In 2017, Risë left the accounting world to practice law, but quickly realized that the dynamic environment provided by a CPA firm was where she belonged. She continues to work closely with her clients’ attorneys and outside advisors to ensure the tax ramifications of business transactions and estate plans are minimized. In addition, she strives to ensure that all those affected understand and are comfortable with the interpersonal aspects of the plans being proposed.

Risë is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds the Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) certification sanctioned by the AICPA. She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University Of Baltimore School of Law.
