Sean O’Connell is a regional leader for the firm’s tax department. A frequent public speaker, Sean has lectured and taught for the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA), the University of Mary Washington and Germanna Community College.
In addition to his CPA, Sean has been designated as a Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) for demonstrating experience in personal financial planning activities and completing a comprehensive examination that tests risk management, investment planning, retirement planning, estate planning and personal financial planning skills. He is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), which is an international business designation that requires a combination of examination and experience equivalent to a master’s degree.
When Sean was first exposed to business and accounting training in the eighth grade, he knew then what he wanted to do for a living. Today, he is most motivated by assisting business owners and families achieve their objectives while using current tools and technologies. Virginia Business magazine has repeatedly recognized him as a Super CPA, most recently for his work in the Individual Tax practice category. In addition, he was presented with Bridgewater College’s “Outstanding Young Alumnus Award” in 1997. As he completed his college coursework in 1985, the CPA profession recognized him for outstanding proficiency in the field of accounting.
Sean’s community involvement background includes serving as past president of his local Kiwanis, Rotary and YMCA. He also serves as chairman of the board of the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce.
